Ingredients & safety
Plastic body with a carbon-steel blade. The blade is sharp and can cut skin and fingers, so always cut outward, away from the body, with the prong between the knot and the skin. Work slowly in small sections, hold the skin flat and never pull. Stop if your cat struggles, and for large or tight mats see a groomer. Dry the blade if it gets wet to avoid rust. Not a toy: never leave it with your cat, and store it in a drawer away from children.

Split small mats, then comb them out

Knots on the chest and behind the legs tighten fast and are hard to comb out. A guide prong feeds the knot to a small blade, so you can split it and comb it out, working slowly and away from the skin.
LitterBond Pocket Mat Splitter - 5 reasons to love it
Pointed guide prong
A long, thin prong extends past the blade, slides into the knot and guides the hair to the blade as you move outward.
Small carbon-steel blade
A small angled carbon-steel blade sits in a narrow slot on the straight edge and splits mats into smaller pieces.
Half-moon thumb grip
The D-shaped grip with a raised thumb panel sits between thumb and fingers for close, steady work.
Pocket-size with hanging hole
At about 7.5 x 4.5 cm (3.0 x 1.8 in), it tucks into a grooming drawer, and the hole lets you hang it up high, away from kids and pets.

Mat Splitting in 3 Steps

LitterBond Pocket Mat Splitter - how to use in 3 steps
Isolate the knot
Find the knot, separate it from the surrounding fur and hold it with your free hand, keeping the skin flat.
Split it outward
Slide the prong in between the knot and the skin, then move outward, away from the body, so the blade splits the knot.
Comb it out
Comb the split pieces out from top to bottom, then clean the hair off the tool.

Questions cat parents ask

Don't see yours? Send it to us through the contact page.

Can it handle big, tight mats?
It is made for small knots and tangles. For large or tight mats close to the skin, see a groomer or your vet.
Is the blade sharp?
Yes. It sits in a narrow slot but can still nick fingers and skin, so keep your fingers clear of the slot.
My cat won't sit still. Any tips?
Work on one small knot at a time during a relaxed moment, such as after a meal, and stop if your cat squirms. Short sessions add up.
How do I care for it?
Clean the hair off after each use. If the blade gets wet, dry it carefully and let it air-dry before storing.
